Arshad Nadeem, born in a small town of Punjab in an average lower middle-class family, has become the first ever person in Olympics history to throw 92.97 meters javelin. He not only has clinched the first Gold Medal in track and field events for Pakistan but also wrote his name in Olympics records history. Back in 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he was the first Pakistani athlete to qualify for track and field events. He performed well in them but grabbed fifth position, but that lead him to 2024 Paris Olympics. He has won not only first but only a medal in athletics. His lack of facilities did not stop him, and he did the unpredictable.
27 years old Arshad has already thrown javelin above 90 meters back in 2022 in Birmingham in Commonwealth Games. Tonight, in Paris his two throws crossed the 90 meters mark, where no other contestant could reach. Now he has the Crown for the next four years. Neeraj Chopra, the defending champion was unlucky to touch the line on five of his attempts, but his only throw brought him the Silver Medal. Back in 2023, in the World Athletics Championship Budapest, both of them were finalists, Neeraj Chopra was Gold Medallist with 88.17 meters throw and Arshad Nadeem was Silver Medallist with 87.82 meters throw.
It is a historic day for Pakistani athletics, I hope the drought of Olympics medals may end here and in future we will see more Pakistani athletes in Olympics participating and winning medals.
